otter in river

A long hibernation

I haven’t been sharing many blog posts or using Twitter – even pre-Musk takeover – for the last couple of years. I haven’t had the spare capacity. I have started draft posts, but never got to the point of hitting Publish. It was helpful to get some things out of my head, so there was a benefit for me without broadcasting. Behind the scenes, I’ve been scribbling a little on my PhD, and now I’m down to the final “get it written!” stage. I might be back blogging once that’s done and dusted late next year. Or maybe not…

I have found that it is easier to take photos, so I’ve reawakened my old Blipfoto account – thanks to the Digital Ed team for getting me started on that waaay back. I can share more information if I want to. Or not. That flexibility is comfortable for me now, especially since increased human interaction is draining my very limited social battery. Blipfoto is a kinder, warmer, more sociable form of social media interaction, and just what an introvert like me needs to ease back into my act-like-an-extrovert shoes.

I’m not a daily blipper, but you’ll catch me there more frequently, at least at the moment. Photos are usually taken when out walking; I’m rarely an indoor blipper. I’m not a spectacular photographer, and there is only so much my old phone can cope with. And if you know me well, you will also know that I have a habit of forgetting to take my mobile with me. Except for the exciting time a few weeks ago when I spotted an otter AND had my phone AND managed to focus with my wobbling MS hands to actually take a photo before the otter was gone. I know – many people were surprised by all that, including me 🙂

So here’s to my second and last 2022 post, and the potential for more posts to come in 2023. There will definitely be something in the new year about a story (yes, a story!) I wrote for Postdigital Science and Education. There is an editorial to come that will bring all the stories together, and I’ll blog once that appears. Our Wicked project has also had another article accepted, and details will appear here and in the In Progress… section.

Wishing all a very festive Yuletide and all the best in life for 2023.
